- You can teach math by having the children measure and make something. For example: Sweeten your fall celebrations with this sweet, cinnamon-scented pumpkin spread that makes a delicious dip for crisp cookies or a sweet spread for warm breads and loaves fresh from the oven. Ingredients 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 2 (7 ounce) jars marshmallow creme 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Cooking Instructions In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese and marshmallow creme until smooth. Fold in pumpkin and cinnamon. Cover, and chill in the refrigerator until serving. This way, the students can use a teaspoon to measure out the cinnamon. And you can measure out the rest of the stuff to give your own numbers for the kids to measure out. This way, they're doing math (and not necessarily an arts/craft thing) and they get to eat! You can also read a book about fall. At the end of the book, you can ask a child to summarize the story. Then you can also give them a fall crossword puzzle or wordsearch. Or you can have the kids make their own book about fall to share with family at home. Some books you can read include: Leaves Change Color?, Autumn Orange, Autumn: An Alphabet Acrostic Enjoy :D
- this is what i was taught in Fall, ART, in pre-school, i liked it you know it taught me 2 speak 4 urself, using paint or anything like crayons/colored pencils like any art tool, u had 2 epress the way u feel about yourself, dats 2 build self-esteem like ur growing up at dis age, n dat way i used 2 speak up 4 myself=D
- do you mean like autumn? you could make art by pasting leaves to paper in fancy patterns
- My kids love going on nature walks and collecting leaves (that alone is an activity, but then you can do lots of art with the collected leaves, but you said no arts and crafts). I've taught children as young as three the parts of a leaf (you can turn it into a matching game). I've taken some classes to visit either a pumpkin patch or apple orchard. You can have dress up things like squirrel tails and autumn clothes, make squirrel feeders and do a science experiment to see how fast the food is eaten/ how many squirrels visit, and talk about why squirrels (bears and other animals that hibernate) and birds do what they do in the autumn. There's lots of great books for those. You can teach the children how to put on/ flip on their jackets (lay the jacket open on the floor, have the child stand at the top of the jacket, have the child put his arms in the sleeves then flip the jacket over his head), once they learn how to do that, they like to do jacket flipping races. You could do cooking activities with pumpkins and apples or make "haystacks" using pretzel sticks (http://southernfood.about.com/od/candyrecipes/r/bl30427n.htm), just make sure nobody's allergic to peanuts with the haystacks. If you plan ahead, you could have the children plant a small garden in the beginning of the school year then see what's ready to harvest when you do your autumn unit. There are really loads of thing you can do with season topics that aren't arts and crafts.
- Nature walks Counting leaves Sorting leaves (leave it to them to decide how to sort them.. you just ask how they were sorted) Order leaf sizes- biggest to smallest Sing songs Read poems Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel Shake your bushy tail (pretend to shake tail) Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel Shake your bushy tail (pretend to shake tail) Wrinkle up your funny nose (act out line) Put a nut between your toes (pretend to eat a nut) Gray Squirrel Shake your bushy tail (Pretend to shake a tail) The leaves are falling down. The leaves are falling down. Red, yellow, green and brown. The leaves are falling down Fall Sorting Preschool children sort a variety of fall objects during this activity. Materials: 4 egg cartons, 12 acorns, 12 maple seeds, 12 pine cones, 12 leaves, or other fall objects small container. Description: Place objects in small container on table. encourage children to sort the objects into the egg cartons. Sensory: "Fall Feely Box" Learning different textures and identifying them is fun for young preschool and kindergarten children during this early childhood activity. Materials: Leaves, acorns, pine cones, nuts, apples, and other things you have discussed. You'll need a box the children can fit their hands into without seeing inside. I use a large shoe box. With a hole cut in the top. Description: Teachers, without the children seeing you, add the objects in the box. During circle time have the children take turns feeling inside the box. Ask each child to describe what he or she feels and what they think it is.
